Day 10 & 11 mile 180 – 210

Day 10 & 11 mile 180 – 210

Bar and Resraurant went well, Beer and a Burger, felt great to eat some real food again even if I’m not that long on trail.

I woke up around 7h00 but until I was ready to go it was already 8h00. I jumped quick into a supermarket to buy breakfast for today and for the rest of the week before walking to the trailhead 1 mile outside of Idyllwild.

Healthy breakfast 🙂

For the rest of the week I got myself a bottle of honey an Tortillas.

The climb in itself was long and hard 10 miles and slightly over 5000 feet of elevation from the trailhead to the summit. It took me 5 hours but the view was worth it!

After I got some pictures I got down about 200 yards to a cabin made out of stone standing there to be used as a shelter for hiker who dont want to go down on the same day.

I did cook myself a nice beef stroganof with noodles, spoke with an young lady of 68 years which was staying at the shelter too about her trail and got back up to see the sunset.

Those are the moments why you are putting yourself through agony the whole day.

The night was short and uncomfortable, the cabin was less isolated than my tent and I got up at 3am to take on another long day.

The first 2 hours were still completely dark and I should have taken another pause to take some pictures of the nightsky but 26 miles won’t walk themselves if I take to many pauses 😉

I am basically walking on postcard backgrounds for 90% of the day. I am very lucky to be out here!

Breakfast pause was 2 minutes around 8h00, Max and I switched positions back and forth depending on who had to take a pee/poo or made a small break.

Oh yeah, I passed the 200mile (320km) mark!

At about 2h00 I was the first out of the mountains and back into the desert again. The wind there was horrible. I was able to lean against it without falling over.

1 mile into the 5 mile walk to the interstate 10 where I planned to sleep I ran into some trailmagic. A young couple where the guy hiked the PCT where handing out Gatorade. I am amazed by the generosity people offer to random people just because they like what we are doing. We had a long chat and I left for the Interstate.

The wind was getting stronger and stronger and blew more and more sand into my face, just like a free peeling. Except that it wasn’t good at all. After an endless 2 hours walking without beeing able to see where i was going I reached the bridge and went under the Interstate.

Trailmagic! Ice cold Beer, Cola, Water and they had Bananas 🙂

I set up my camp, but as soon as there were 4 more hikers comming they were talking about a trailangel which they wanted to call to sleep at his house and I agreed. I packed up my tent again and the guy came within minutes and took us to his home.

How I got my trailname and the story about the night in the house tomorrow, I have to take a shower now 🙂
