Day 29 & 30 mile 478 – 503
I stayed in my tent until 8h00 because I wasnt in a rush to leave and wanted to start slow. There were still pancakes left from breakfast so I sat down and enjoyed having a chair and a table to eat 🙂
I did nothing the whole morning except wandering around in the magical forest behind Casa de Luna.
Every hiker who stays there paints a rock an places it somewhere in the forest. Some are just painted, some have proverbs on it and some just a drawing.
And this is mine 🙂
There was no more white paint, so you cannot see the letters very well…
After painting we got to the local restaurant. All of the around 15 costumers were hikers. I got a peanutbutter-banana milkshake which was delicious and a hamburger. While going back I went to the gas station and bought a few ice-creams and some Gatorade.
An hour of sleep later we decided to hike out. I packed my stuff and we walked to the road to hitch a ride back to the trailhead where we arrived at 17h00.
Two more hours of walking until we found a spot where we cowbowcamped, which wasn’t a good idea…
In the morning when we woke up, everything was wet because of the mist.
Getting up in those conditions was extra hard and it took us forever before we were back on the trail…
Luckily we found a good spot for lunch where we dried our stuff.
The heat was desert-like so it didn’t took long for the stuff to be completely dry again. It is still amazing of fast the landscape and the temperatures change here.
We reached the 500 mile marker later in the afternoon just before setting up our tents a few meters of the trail well hidden behind some trees.
I challenged myself again to eat 2 meals for dinner, but my hikerhunger still hasn’t kicked in and I had to give half of the second one away.
I got into my tent just after hikermidnight and fell asleep quite fast 🙂
