Phnom Penh – Siem Reap – Chiang Mai

Phnom Penh – Siem Reap – Chiang Mai

After sleeping in we had our first western breakfast since we started our trip and it was delicious!   We took a tuktuk to get to the royal palace only to discover that it was closed during lunchtime. So we decided to walk to the next temple and adapt our tour to visit the palace at the end, while walking another tuktuk driver approached us and convinced us to do a 2 hour tour to various places around the…

Nha Trang – Dalat – Saigon – Phnom Penh

Nha Trang – Dalat – Saigon – Phnom Penh

Another 6 hour drive was ahead of us so we started early and had to get breakfast on the way and darwin´s law showed it´s best side… Street food and little shops are omnipresent in the whole country, except when you are hungry and would love to grab something to eat. So we just stopped at a gas station and bought a pizza sized rice cake with caramel and nuts.     As we continued driving we came closer…

Ninh Binh – Hue – Hoi An – Quy Nonh

Ninh Binh – Hue – Hoi An – Quy Nonh

We had a hole 8 person dorm for us alone but because we arrived late in Ninh Binh and wanted to arrive early in Hue we did not see a lot of the city and left early in the morning.   After two hours of driving suddenly Fabienne fell behind and I had to drive back to see what caused the problem. I was not able to get the bike going again so I had to push her to…

Sa Pa – Ha Long – Cat Ba – Ninh Binh

Sa Pa – Ha Long – Cat Ba – Ninh Binh

The night at the hostel was not good at all, the rooms didn´t have ceilings so we could hear everything what was happening in the other rooms. The couple in the room next to us even taught it would be a brilliant idea to handwrite letters with the light on until way past 2 am.   The first night we overslept, but today new guests arrived at 7 am and made again a lot of noise. But no time…

Luxemburg – Sa Pa

Luxemburg – Sa Pa

After 3 stressful weeks in Luxemburg figuring out what do to, getting Visa´s, booking the first few nights, buying new things for the next trip and selling stuff from the last one on November 3rd I was back on the road again.   Major difference this time, I wont be traveling alone anymore. Fabienne is joining me for the next 6 months 🙂   From Luxembourg we flew to Milan in Italy, then back up to Düsseldorf in Germany…

Day 122 – 130 mile 2464 – 2653

Day 122 – 130 mile 2464 – 2653

After playing cards and drinking Whiskey until 1am I fell into my bunkbed and slept astonishingly well compared to the hotel-bed a few days ago.   In the morning I got up at 7h30 to get breakfast. Pancakes, bacon, croissants and sliced apples, simple delicious 🙂   I charged my phone again, to leave with it as much charged as possible and went out to find the store. After 15 minutes I found it and was more than disapointed!…

Day 115 – 121 mile 2327 – 2464

Day 115 – 121 mile 2327 – 2464

As expected the night was rough, very rough! Because I have a single-wall tent I am not allowed to touch the walls when its raining otherwise I’ll get wet too.   I woke up at 3am and couldn’t find any more sleep because. So I played with my phone until it was time to get up.   Well, getting up was not easy today because everything was frozen over night. And by everything I mean everything. From socks to…

Day 108 – 115 mile 2148 – 2327

Day 108 – 115 mile 2148 – 2327

After a relaxing week in Portland where I did my first atempt on sending resupply packages I was going back to Cascade Locks.     I missed the bus only by 2 minutes… but missed is missed and I had to call an Uber to drive me all the way back to Cascade Locks. 57$ which I could habe better spent than this. Eve, my driver dropped me if in front of the supermarket where I had to buy…

Day 104 – 107 mile 2097 – 2147

Day 104 – 107 mile 2097 – 2147

Spending the night in a bed was not as comfortable as I’d expected. The room was really warm with no air-conditionning and having the windows open didn’t helped enough.   The hotel was build in 1939 an renovated in 1955. Since then everything has been kept the same way. It was some kind of historical flashback beeing there for the short time.   We sat at the famous buffet at 8am. Everyone on trail tells you to go there…

Day 96 – 103 mile 2001 – 2097

Day 96 – 103 mile 2001 – 2097

After spending two days off trail with driving to portland and back, shopping, drinking wine, having a lot of showers and buying a 9 day resupply Fabienne and I were back on trail. The weather was amazing, it had rained two days ago when we were off-trail so the air is cleared from the smoke and the trail is dust-free.   Perfect conditions if the beginning wouldn’t have been a 6 mile uphill section, a tough start for Fabienne….
