Day 12 – 14 mile 210 – 266
The shower was badly needed and the laundy too, eveb though it has only been 2 days out there.
We sat on the couch an looked Robot-wars, of which the trailangel must have been a huge fan, because he even stopped mid sentence if something happened during the match.
Dinner was hotdogs, easy to make but if you are living from precocked meals they taste fantastic 🙂
After dinner we had a beer and a shot of Moonshine, a 95% stong alcohol which burns every inch of your tongue.
We slept on carpetfloor of the living room which was very comfortable.
Trailnames are given to you by other hikers due to your behavior, looks or things you say. You can denie them if you dont like the one given to you so there will be another one someday.
They named me Badger.
Because I dont give a fuck. Took and another hiker prepared to pass a bee-nest which was directly on trail and I just passed them without any protection saying that they would not sting me.
That’s where it came from 🙂
Oh and they got stung, I didn’t!
After waking up we had breakfast (toast and peanutbutter ) and did start quite late at around 9h00 back where got picked up yesterday.
We walked together for 15 minutes and then I felt my legs tickling, so I set of the groupe to do the fastest 10 mile climb so far. 3hours and 5 minutes to the whitewater preserve, a picknick area with shade, water and toilets.
I ate lunch there, made a 90min pause and hiked further. 3 miled into the hike we had to pass a river where 2 of our group were taking of their shoes an pants to get into the water.
I put my backpack dowm next to the water, passed them with all my clothes on and just sat down in the water. Know I know why they call you Badger said Horny Toed and shaked her head.
We sat there for a while and then we had to hike on because he next Tentsite was 6 miles away.
Great views as always 🙂
We set up camp next to a creek which we would follow for the next 12 miles. I ate something real quick and went to bed early.
As usual I was one of the last to leave in the morning. I set of at 7h10.
90 minuted and 3,1 mile into the hike it hit me like Thor with his hammer…
…I left my Gopro at the tentsite…
I did hide my backpack behind a bush and ran to get it back, because I knew exacly where it must have fallen out.
25 minutes later I had it back in my pocket but this has been the easier part. The whole way back was uphill again and it took my again 90 minutes to reach my backpack, which I had put right on top of an ant nest…
After 5 minutes of getting rid of all the ants trying to invade my pack I was on my way again to catch up with my trailfamily.
During my lunchbreak this squirrel came to visit 🙂
It took my until 16h00 until I saw them again at the last watersource for the next 20miles just before they left. So I just got myself some water very quick and I set of with a guy from switzerland to get to the next tentsite another 6miles from where we got the water.
We had a great talk about wanting change in life after a long time in the same job and why we would travel to which country for about 2,5 hours before we hit the campground.
We set up our tents, cooked diner and planned the next day. We’ll walk 19,4 miles to a tentsite next to highway in front of bigbear. From there we would book a hotel for us all which will pick us up from the trail.
The plan sounds great so because its getting dark we get into our tents to get some rest before we hit the trail again 🙂
The night was horribly cold, I even thought about getting a new sleeping bag. But when we got out of our tents and sat together to have breakfast everyone was that cold, one guy said that his sleeping bag was frozen from the outside!
We sat there in the sun for almost an hour to heat ourselves up and I even did some Yoga with the other 5 of our little group. Around 9h00 we set of to hike.
After 3 miles we found this strange private Zoo with 2 bears and a tiger which are trained to play in movies.
Sad to see even though the animals seemed to have a lot of space in their cages.
We continued hiking and after 3 more miles we sat down on a couch to get second breakfast. Some trailangels did put a couch in the forest for us to get a good seat 🙂
Crumbs played some songs with his Ukulele and after an hour we got up for 3 more miles to get to a water source. By that time I arrived there it was lunchtime and I coocked some ramen.
We are walking some more miles taking it very easy because we’ll sleep another night on trail before going to town tomorrow for a zero day 🙂
