Day 15 & 16 mile 266 – 286
Dinner with a nice view π
We camped about half a mile away from the Highway 18 where we wanted to hitch into Bigbear.
We left the camp just after 7am and reached the highway 10 minutes later, we were lucky and someone just dropped of a few hickers, so he took us back into town.
We got our resupply done by 8h30 and went over to have a nice breakfast π
The hitch to the motel we wanted to stay took us 15 minutes, when we arrived there we took a room for up to 4 people and had a quick shower before we headed to the laundromat. Because I don’t have spare clothes with me but only 1 spare underwear I had to wait like this for my laundry to be done.
Luckily there were only hikers at the laundromat who understood my situation π
After I had my clothes and inliner for the sleeping bag washed we got back to our motel where Manuel, the third guy for the room waited for us. Manuel went out for the laundromat too and I prepared my resupply for the next 6 days.
The rest of the day we hung out in our room, made some phonecalls home to say that everything is working out well. I ordered a new enlightened equipment sleeping quilt because me sleeping bag is too cold to have a good rest. It should be delivered to the next postal office where I’ll be, in Wrightwood.
It was dollar taco night at the local mexican restaurant π So after eating way too much nachos with salsa there was only space for 5 more tacos… but they tasted great! After the restaurant we got Ben&Jerry’s icecream before we got to the brewery to have a few beers.
They closed quite early at 22h30 so we went to a karaoke bar to have a final beer. The last beer(s) took me two and a half hours and I was the first to go home at 1…. my shuttle to get back to the trail would leave at 7am.
Well played Dustin, well played…
The night was short but good and it didn’t felt to bad to get up and go out to the trailhead again.
After 2 miles aΒ fire-closure forced me to take a detour over a dirt road which was not to interesting…
After breakfast I had to get water for the next 20 miles. The backpack was full of food and now 5 liters of water too. That is the only reason why town stops are not nice, the heavy backpack after you leave again.
I saw a baby rattlesnake which did hide to fast under a tree to get a picture. My trailfamily was still in town so I walked alone the whole day, which is not as bad as it might seem.
At 16h00 I decided that 19,5 miles were enough and I set up my camp next to 3 dayhikers.
We had a great talk about the trail, beeing in the nature and because Rob had a drone too we had a lot to discuss about how to get the best shots with the least amount of battery.
Right after dinner a black Jeep parked next to our camp which was literally in the middle of nowhere, a man got out and asked if anyone wanted an beer.
Simple question, simple answer!
And they were ice cold! π
After the beer I went straight to bed at 20h00 because I didn’t got enough sleep the night before. But the night was really cold again and I am happy when my new sleeping quilt will arrive and I can finally get some better sleep.
