Day 1 & 2 mile 0-42

Day 1 & 2 mile 0-42

The drill in the morning starts in the evening!

That’s what scout remembered us, so everything was packed apart from the sleeping bag and the matress. This helps the morning routine which starts at 5h00 going faster.

The alarm rang, I opened my eyes and saw that everyone was already packing their pack… Luckily I was well prepared and I was done withing a few minutes to put my bag in front of the house and grab a coffee.

After breakfast, we got outside to help the drivers load the cars with the backpacks and we drove of at 6h00.

We arrived around 7h00 at the monument where an official from the PCTA waited for us to sign the Logbook. First the individual pictures, then the group picutre have been taken before I set of at 7h30.

A teacher did start the same time as we did an he made his class write a motivational letter for us hikers, of course I took one 🙂

The first two hours went great, but then I started to feel that I’m already getting a hotspot for a blister… I immediately stopped an put a blister pad on my foot.

Everything went good, I had to tape a few more blisters at around 12h00 but I felt good, until the last mountain before I would hit Lake Morena…

I might have set of to fast, ate too much sweets or my thighs were just too sore but as I reached town at 15h00 I didn’t feelt good. I ate ramen although I was not hungry and set of to hike another few miles because I though it would be too soon to set up camp.

2 hours an 4km /2mi later I reached my tentsite an set up my tent. I cooked, ate 1 spoon an fell asleep right away at 19h.

I didn’t slept well but got up at 6 packed everything together an left at 7. It rained the whole night so everything was wet. Nevertheless I felt better and was able to keep a good pace although the trail climbed over 1000m/3000feet. After lunch I was not able to my feet going again and in the rain the last 16km/10mi were horrible.

I was cold and decided to check the Mt Laguns Lodge if the had a room for the night. I wanted someone to share the room to split the costs but when I arrived after 2 closed bars and 1 closed restaurant I didn’t mind the price and just got a room on my own.

I bought some beer and chips and got into the shower. Amazing feeling! Never thought of that after only 2 days on the trail.

I recalculatet my food, trew away some of it to save weight, wrote this and got straight to bed.

Hopefully I wille be able to get up at 5 tomorrow to be able to finish my first +42km/28mi day. I have too because there wont be any water for the next 64km/40mi…
